Sauber's Kamui Kobayashi will start Sunday's Japanese GP from seventh on the grid after the initial qualifying results were adjusted.
The local driver was originally slated to begin the race from tenth spot, but the official FIA grid sees him promoted to seventh.
The final man to qualify for Q3, Kobayashi was one of four drivers who did not post a lap time during the final session of qualifying.
However, Kobayashi attempted a flying lap although he did not set a time.
The Formula One rules state that should a driver fail to set a time, the grid will be determined by the following:
1. Any driver who attempted to set a qualifying time by starting a flying lap
2. Any driver who failed to start a flying lap
3. Any driver who failed to leave the pits during the period.
As a result, with Kobayashi having started a lap while the three men in front of him - Michael Schumacher, Bruno Senna and Vitaly Petrov - did not, the Japanese driver moved up to seventh in the standings.
