Felipe Massa concedes he's going to need to do better next season if he hopes to extend his stay at Ferrari.
The Brazilian has had a dismal 2011 campaign, failing to each the podium never mind win a grand prix. As a result, he is down in sixth place in the Drivers' Championship, 137 points behind his team-mate Fernando Alonso.
His disappointing run has sparked rumours that he could be dropped at the end of the year, however, Massa has a firm contract in place for next year with Ferrari insisting on several occasions that he will stay on.
But, even Massa admits that could be his last year with Ferrari if he doesn't up his game.
"This is not the only moment that I have to do a good job to renew," said the 30-year-old. "Other times it has happened. I need a good year to continue."
Aside from a good year in 2012, the Brazilian is also hoping for a good finish to this year's Championship, confident he can fight for a top-three result at the Interlagos circuit.
"I think when you race at home it's like a different Championship," he said. "I hope definitely I can have a good weekend here fighting for the podium.
"If it is the first place, that would be fantastic, but I'm definitely looking to have my best result from the Championship in this race."
